How do I install ILANA?ILANA is available from Microsoft AppSource. Open Microsoft Word, go to Insert > Get Add-ins, search for "ILANA", and click Add. The add-in will appear in your Home ribbon.
What versions of Word are supported?ILANA works with Microsoft Word on Windows, Mac, and Word for the web. You need Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) or Office 2019/2021.
Is my protocol data secure?Yes. ILANA uses enterprise-grade security with TLS 1.3 encryption for all data in transit. We do not permanently store your protocol text. See our Privacy Policy for details.
How does the AI analysis work?ILANA analyzes your selected text or full document using AI trained on regulatory guidelines (ICH-GCP, FDA, EMA). It identifies clarity issues, compliance gaps, and provides specific improvement suggestions.
Can I use ILANA offline?ILANA requires an internet connection to perform AI analysis. The add-in interface will load, but analysis features need connectivity to our secure servers.
What clinical trial phases does ILANA support?ILANA supports all phases of clinical trials, from Phase 1 through Phase 4, as well as pre-clinical and observational studies. The AI adapts its suggestions based on the trial phase and therapeutic area.
Troubleshooting
Add-in not loading

Try clearing your Office cache: Close Word completely, delete the cache folder at %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Wef\ (Windows) or ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Word/Data/Documents/wef (Mac), then restart Word.
Analysis taking too long

Large text selections (over 5,000 words) may take longer to process. Try analyzing smaller sections of your protocol for faster results.
“Network error” message

Check your internet connection. If you're behind a corporate firewall, ensure that *.onrender.com is whitelisted. Contact your IT department if needed.
Add-in disappeared from ribbon

Go to Insert > Get Add-ins > My Add-ins and re-enable ILANA. If it's not listed, reinstall from AppSource.
